To decrease air intake resistance and temperature, inhaling more air through air intake improves combustion efficiency, which leads to a power increase. The technology and capability MUGEN devotes to “High performance intake systems” are always related with GT and Formula machines competing at circuits.
Temperature can be a burden when it comes to sending as much fresh air as possible into cylinders. “Hi-performance air cleaner and box” whose inlet position is optimized as replacement for genuine part. Air inlet layout, its capacity, the material of box and filter are all designed and developed for each vehicle model individually so as not to compromise the installation and/or cause elevated air temperatures. Also in the case of S2000 and INTEGRA, MUGEN aerodynamic bumpers have been developed in conjunction with the air box. Installation of both parts results in absolute performance increase.
“High performance air filter” is a replacement type moistened with oil and with a stainless steel mesh employed as a core part of the filter. Due to the low density sponge material, the flow resistance of the filter itself decreases by 50%.
However even a tiny dust particle cannot be allowed to enter the cylinders, and the severe conditions imposed by both motor sports and street driving continue to drive the development. Drawing on the experience gained in its long history and association with racing, the filter MUGEN supplies for air cleaner has a large and rigid inlet cross-sectional area and is made of the same material as that utilized for racing cars.
Here is some literature for those that are interested, those that cannot be bothered, keep scrolling. Please excuse the Japan-a-glish, it was directly translated from Mugen Japan. >>
What is required for the development of the exhaust manifold is having equal length of pipes and perfect exhaust gas flow. On the dynamometer bench test, the pulsation, resonance and inertial effect of the exhaust gasses emitted from each cylinder in addition to the connecter’s position of the primary, secondary, and collector as well as the pipe’s diameter were studied to find out its optimum layout by delicately adjusting each length of the exhaust pipe and repeatedly making and trying the different configurations.
Furthermore we would like to recommend High-Performance Engine Oil VT-α, which fulfills the hidden potentials gained through MUGEN manufacturing technology. This engine oil is 100% chemically compounded oil of SAE 5W-40 developed through repeated bench tests to be suitable for the Honda VTEC engine. High specification engine oil possessing proper viscosity; and with newly developed additives (MODIC: organic molybdenum), it can hold an oil film under severe conditions. Though performance of the engine oil is in no way inferior to that of the racing engine oil, it also has oxidation resistance and low temperature stability ideal for street use. MODIC, organic molybdenum can quickly be penetrated into the metal friction surface where it makes a smooth metal surface by forming strong lubricating surface which in turn reduces the friction resistance and minimizes the loss of engine power as a result. Proven by bench-testing.
We believe that the oil line also plays a very important role. The MUGEN oil filter is exclusively developed for naturally aspirated engines and has “Y” shape cross section rather than a round cross section of the ordinarily fiber filter material. By adopting the “Y” shape, we were able to succeed in reducing the sludge reentering into the system with the sludge efficiently stuck on to the filtering fibers. At the same time, pressure loss is reduced by 10% and significantly increases the high temperature resistance capability.

As the car sits today, below is a shot taken from 2 years ago.
This particular kit is made in Japan for all S2000 model years.
The new Copper Fiber Clutch System from Mugen offers substantial performance gains over the OEM unit. In addition to increased performance and durability, this complete kit gives a much more direct feel.
As the name implies, the clutch disk is impregnated with copper; this provides much more stability and friction for high-performance applications. The disc has stiffer springs than OEM, as well as the elimination of the cushioning plate.
The pressure plate is considerably stiffer, and the surface is Mugen’s proprietary steel.
The flywheel is a lightened unit, with a super-durable face.
This kit is an incredible 13.7 lbs. lighter that OEM and reduces spinning inertia by 42%.
Comes complete with: clutch disk, pressure plate, flywheel, pilot bearing, release bearing, and ultra-strong flywheel and pressure plate bolts.

Coming in late this year, the DC5 is only now going though its upgrades. Couple of the major changes this year will be the install of Mugen N1 coilovers & corner balancing of the car. Today the old Öhlins PCV using Swift 140 (14K front) and 160 (16K rear) springs came out. To its replacement, a set of Mugen N1 rocking Swift 160 fronts, 280 rear springs and Cusco camber plates.
Another Saturday afternoon, enjoying some Starbucks… sitting around, talking about cars, taking some pictures of a couple friends transportation devices.
